Athens Hospitality & Accommodation
We collaborate with three small-scale accommodations that offer excellent value for money and are perfectly suited for birdwatchers:
- AthensOwl: Centrally located in Athens, near the Acropolis, Plaka, and the National Garden.
- Seasabelle Hotel: A peaceful seaside retreat on the Attica Riviera, close to Artemis Wetland, Vravrona Estuary and Spata fields
- The Greece Escape: Ideal for exploring key birding sites like Schinias National Park and Marathon fields.
Each offers comfort, convenience, and proximity to the birding hotspots we visit on our tours.
ATHENS CENTER - STAY UNDER ACROPOLIS
For birdwatchers who want to stay in the heart of Athens, we recommend the Athens Owl hotel, located in the quiet and charming neighborhood of Koukaki, just below the Acropolis. Its name honors Athens’ sacred bird, the owl, and the hotel combines high-quality aesthetics, great value for money, and an excellent location.
In summer, you may hear the mournful call of the Eurasian Scops Owl from nearby Filopappou Hill, which is perfect for an evening birding walk, along with the National Garden.
Close to landmarks like the Acropolis Museum, Plaka, and Syntagma Square, Athens Owl is also a convenient pickup and drop-off point for our tours, thanks to less traffic in the area.
ATTICA RIVIERA - SEA FRONT & AIRPORT VICINITY
For birdwatchers seeking to stay in a tranquil, natural environment away from the city, we highly recommend the Seasabelle Hotel. Located on the scenic coastline of eastern Attica, this charming seaside hotel offers the perfect base for exploring the region’s diverse birding hotspots.
Keep your binoculars handy at all times: watch out for Cory's Shearwaters and Yelkouan Shearwaters from your balcony!
The hotel is just a 20-minute walk from the Artemis Wetland, a small but vital ecosystem for the area’s birdlife, offering easy access for early morning or evening birdwatching. Eastern Attica is home to many of the wetlands and birding locations we visit on our tours, making Seasabelle an excellent choice for bird enthusiasts who value proximity to nature. It is also conveniently located near Athens International Airport and the port of Rafina, providing a peaceful retreat with minimal travel time.
From this base, you’ll be within close reach of some of the most important birding destinations in Attica, including:
- Schinias National Park, renowned for its rich bird diversity.
- Vravrona Wetland, a haven for migratory and resident bird species.
- Spata Fields, offering excellent opportunities to spot farmland and open-country birds.
- Rafina Stream, an often-overlooked gem for birders.
Whether you’re planning a short stay or an extended birding holiday, the Seasabelle Hotel offers an ideal combination of comfort, accessibility, and proximity to nature. Its serene setting by the sea makes it a relaxing retreat after a day of birdwatching adventures.
