Bird Photography: Shorebirds in Artemis Lagoon, Athens

Bird photography is growing fast worldwide, with the evolution of DSLR cameras, photoprocessing, and social media.

On May 3rd 2022, we had the request from a US birder to run a birding tour around Athens, focused on bird photography.

We found a small pond in Artemis Lagoon, were a small flock of Curlew Sandpipers (Calidris ferruginea) was feeding carelessly. Two Little Stints (Calidris minuta) and a Little Plover (Charadrius hiaticula) were also enjoying the fresh water, searching for food in order to continue their migration journey.

All the above photographs were taken handheld, just beside the water pond, with no hide neaded. Birds were not disturbed, no matter the passing by bikes, hikers and bird photgraphers.

We used a Canon 7D MArk II, with Canon 300mm f4 lense.
