Ancient Greek Sacred Owl of Athens, at Vravrona

Sacred Owl of Athena, known as Little Owl can be found in many locations around Athens.

In classical times, Little Owl was the emblem of the city of Athens. It was the sacred bird of the goddess Athena.

During a recent birdwatching tour around eastern Attica, we found this Little Owl roosting on the marbles of the Temple of Artemis at Vravrona Wetland. A superb sighting!
