The Northern Gannet is still a very rare bird in Greece as records are extremely few and confined to western Greece (mainly in the island of Corfu) and Crete.
Oropos Lagoon lies at South Evvoikos Gulf, a closed sea area that doesn't look like the ideal place for a Gannet.
Nevertheless, an adult bird was recorded fishing and being constanly mobbed by Yellow-legged Gulls on January 14, 2018. The bird showed up again on the 15th and birdwatchers from all over Athens are swarming to the lagoon to try their luck on this handsome bird!
