The Isabelline Wheatear is a rather rare local summer visitor of Greece, restricted to the northern mainland and a few island in the eastern Aegean. It was also regarded to be a very rare passage migrant, with very few records every year, especially around Athens.
Increased birdwatching activity, however, has shown that it is in fact a regular visitor, even in the southern suburbs of Athens!
The small and heavily disturbed coastal area in Faliro Bay (once a river delta, now a barren area with just a few trees and some water pools in winter and spring) is the best site to look for it, along with other interesting species like the Short-toed Lark and the Tawny Pipit.
