The Little Bustard used to be common in Greece in the early 20th century; nowadays, however, is a very rare sighting in winter. The increasing number of birdwatchers has shown that it is a regular winter visitor to a few sites of Northern Greece.
A small group of seven birds was seen close to Lake Ismarida, south of the city of Xanthi in Thrace. This, along with the Evros Delta, are the two most promising areas to look for this rarity during the winter.
