August is here, and for most migrants the time has come for the long trip to Africa and Asia...
Fledged juvenile Red-rumped Swallows are still being fed by their parents, while perched or in flight, even though they can catch prey. It seems that the mother (or father) instinct drives parents to provide as much food as possible in order for their young to survive the long flights over the Mediterranean.
Hoopoes have already started departing, seen in small groups. Their journey is also very exhauting. that's why the have to keep their plumage in optimum condition.
Fan-tailed Warblers, on the other hand, are strictly resident and migration is an uknown word to them. They only have to prepare for the winter as they are susceptible to very low temperatures. For now, they just relax and enjoy the sunshine!
