The highest and largest mountain of Athens, Mt Parnitha lost a significant part of its fir forest due to a large fire in 2007. Many woodland species saw their breeding habitat reduce, for some other species, however, this fire was beneficial. Cirl Buntings are very fond of clearings among woodland, as well as Rock Buntings. The "masters", however, of burnt areas are the Cretzschmar's Buntings that occupied the area just a couple of years after the fire, having established a stronghold at an elevation of 1.000 m.
