Pectoral Sandpiper is a very rare vagrant in Greece. So far, only four records of this North American wader have been confrmed. The fifth record comes from the small wetland of Loutsa, some 20 kms east of Attica! Among Dunlins and Little Stints, a juvenile bird was feeding on shallow water!
This small lagoon is very important in fall migration, as its water levels are low enough to provide muddy terrain for stints and sandpipers, including Red Knots and Broad-billed Sandpipers. However, the Pectoral Sandpiper is by far the most rare visitor of this precious site!
