Several greek birders have enjoyed distant views of Black Heron, a new species for Europe, seen close to Mesolongi Lagoons. Some fellow birders are thinking of taking the plane, or boat (easier) and coming to Mesolongi. Here are the directions and map of the area.
Plane: From Athens International Airport, drive west to Rio-Antirio bridge (250 km, 2.5 hours drive). Then, 40 km to Mesolongi.
Boat: From Bari or Ancona, Italy, take the boat and get of Patra Port. Mesolongi is 1 hour drive from Patra.
From Mesolongi, continue towards Etoliko city, Katohi village, and finally Lesinio village. Take a look at the following map for the exact location.
Please stay at the main small road next to the hill, do not attempt to get to the marshes, in order not to distract the bird.
