Late September is the best month to see migrating Redstarts. Juveniles and females are the majority, with the odd male seen now and then. Always hiding in foliage, Redstarts can be very hard to photograph and one has to be very patient (and lucky) to get a clean view. In a small pistachio tree stand, on the 29th of September, 2011, Redstarts (including one male) were battling Spotted Flycatchers for the best post. Neither side won....
