Crete is definitely the island of Griffon Vultures (Gyps fulvus) - Όρνιο. Not only does it hold the largest population of Griffons in Greece, they're also very easy to see. A 10 min. stop to Kourtaliotiko Gorge gave the opportunity to see a spectacular Aerial show of 10 Griffons flying effortlessly very close (for some tourists TOO close!) to the ground, taking advantage of the thermals.
