An unusual species for a Mediterannean country, the Hazel Grouse (Bonasa bonasia) - Δασόκοτα is found only in the Rodopi Mountains, which form the natural boundaries of Greece with Bulgaria. A hard to see species, it can be remarkably agile for its size, flying between twigs and leaves and perching on trees. Elatia Forest in the Prefecture of Drama is the best place to watch this elusive forest dweller.
