We had a blast birding in Northern Greece, especially around Lake Kerkini. Chris Vlachos, a professional wildlife photographer was our guide, and proved that he knows the area better than his pocket. I took almost 1200 photos and it will take me time to post everything in the blog!
Bird of the trip: Rose-coloured Starlings, a flock of more than 200 birds was observed quite a few time, most of them very close to us. While feeding, these birds seems not to care about anything else, you can almost touch them. The birds were seen next to the main road connecting Lithotopos and Kerkini villages.
Other highlights, of a total of 114 bird species observed:
Birds: Pygmy Cormorant, Dalmatian Pelican, Lesser Spotted Eagle (3), Long-legged Buzzard, Levant Sparrowhawk, Goshawk, Eleonorae's Falcon, Spur-winged Plover, Broad-billed Sandpiper, Calandra Lark, Syrian Woodpecker, Grey headed Woopecker, Bee-eater, Roller, Masked Shrike, Eastern Olivaceous Warbler, Eastern Bonelli's Warbler, Black-headed Bunting
