I recently had the opportunity to visit several birding areas of Cyprus. The country is located in the eastern part of the Mediterranean sea, where many asian or african species stop by, being European rarities or vagrants. I basically visited Akrotiri Peninsula, Larnaca, Cape Greco, Achna Lake, Paralimni Lake, and managed to get more than 100 species in two mornings (27/3 and 2/4), 12 life species for me, and some of the most rare species in Europe, such as White-breasted Kingfisher, Cream-coloured Courser, Desert Wheatear, Cinereus Bunting,
Other important for me species were Eastern Redstart (P.phoenicurus samamisicus), Yellow wagtails (race dombrowski, feldegg, supeciliaris) Isabelline Wheatear, Eastern Bonelli's Warbler, Spectacled Warbler, and the two Cyprus endemic breeders, Cyprus Wheatear, and Cyprus Warbler.
Special thanks to Stavros Christodoulides, an avid Cypriot birder, for his endless birding help, support, companion and great choice of bakeries on our way!
Cream-coloured Courser is probably one of the top 3 most beautiful birds I have ever seen.
This bird was seen in Akrotiri, Limassol
