The weather forcast was perfect, so I decided to go for a one day trip to Mesologi last weekend, where I joined several other birders doing the mid-winter waterfowl count. There were huge flocks of Flamingos, Avocets, Kentish Plovers, and Dunlins, as well as other interesting species such as Spoonbills, Dalmatian Pelicans, Grey Plovers, Caspian Tern, Sanwich Tern, and Black-necked Grebe, Kingfisher, and several species of ducks. We didn't see any big raptors, but could observe Marsh Harriers, Common Buzzards, Kestrels, a male Northern Harrier, as well as four Griffon Vultures flying above the near mountains.
