In the Greco-bulgarian borders there's a forest that has no equal in Greece. It's a magical place that's home to some of the rarest Greek birds like the Hazel Grouse, the Capercaillie and the Nutcracker. I was fortunate enough to spend a weekend there and take some good photos....
The Hazel Grouse has a very restricted distribution in Greece and it's very hard to locate, even though it is a medium sized bird. This male actually "wanted" to be photographed, as it stayed at that branch for a few minutes and then walked away!
