Loutsa Lagoon is a tiny lagoon located very close to one of Athens most popular beaches near Athens. Thanks to recent conservation efforts, landfilling of the area has stopped and water is retained all year long, giving the opportunity to several species to stop during the autumn migration where finding wetlands in southern Greece is very difficult. The presence of a Knot along with at least 5 Ferruginous Ducks is indicative of its significance. Other species seen were the following: Little Grebe, Mallard, Garganey, Moorhen, Water Rail, Little Stint, Dunlin, Little Ringed Plover, Black-winged Stilt, Turnstone, Wood Sandpiper, Ruff, Common Sandpiper, Yellow Wagtail, Cetti's Warbler. Not bad for a wetland that's less than 4 ha!
