The greek twitch: Searching for the raritee at Mesolongi Lagoons, Jan 24th 2009 (Spyros, Nikos, Akis, Gerasimos, Jannet, Felix)

We had a great time birding in Eastern Greece, including Mesolongi and Etoliko Lagoons, Kleisoura Gorge, Aigio Saltpans, Strofylia Lagoons, Araxos Lagoon. We (Spyros, Nikos, Jannet from Canada and Felix from Switzerland) observed a total of 85 species was more or less satisfactory, since the weather was bad, with rain and wind, especially on the second day. We also met other greek birders in the field (Nikos, Gerasimos, Akis in Mesolongi, Kostas & his team at Araxos), since this was one of the Midwinter Counting weekends
Highlights were a Hoopoe (out of the season), 2 Ospreys, Dalmatian Pelicans, Spoonbills, Great Spotted Eagle, Slender-billed Gull, Spanish Sparrow, Crag Martins, Rock Nuthatch
