It was a warm May morning when, during a photo trip, I saw a Little Bittern standing still in the Asopos river mouth in north Attica. This bird is rarely seen in the open so I tried to get as many photos as possible. Of course I only managed to take a couple as it quickly flew to the safeness of the reeds on the banks of the river. Back in home, I realized why it had remained still in the open. A large grass snake was located very close to the bird! It seems that I spoiled a great meal for that poor heron...
Fortunately, the bird (and the snake) remained in the same area so I left the area to let nature have its own way.
